‘Ways with Landscape’ is the collective title used by the artist for her artwork
While the Artist continues to read the landscape and document Art Walks, the sketch book notations are now developing through her oil painting ‘outcomes’; for as the famous Walking Artist Hamish Fulton says “First the walk then the art” remains the crucial beginning for how else can the sensory ‘experience of place’ be conveyed onto canvas if it is not experienced first-hand.
An example is the Millburn Quartet. Before paint ever met canvas there were three years of gathering visual and audible information. Thus the estuary birds were not painted their presence is simply listed.
The primary documentation the Artist’s pocket log/sketch book often remains the only evidence of a tangible moment.
It has been said that authentic art is imbued with evidence of a life lived, that experience always come at a price. It is more than decorative it is narrative.
